Schiavon: Slaves or not slaves?

I found on Internet references to the fact that the name Schiavon comes from slave! "They sell without heart, future Slaves slaves to the Arab merchants. The "La Riva degli Schiavoni", of his true name, Dock of the slaves, in Venice east is one of the vestiges of this period ref:http://www.africamaat.com/".

I am not linguist, but, looking at everyone research, I believe that the term "riva degli schiavoni" does not mean "Dock of the slaves" because one would write in Italian "riva degli schiavi", but means well "Dock of the Slavons".
Although into the Schiavoni, we find slaves as well as mercenaries, companies like the scuola degli Schiavoni or famous artists , this nickname refers to their country of origin (the Slavonia) and not to their state of slave. Do not mislead ourselves. If the Slavic word (Slavon) gave rise to the word slave (schiavo), that does not mean that the schiavoni (Slavons) of Veneto were inevitably slaves (Just look at Schiavona of Titien, 1511, to realize it...)
La Riva Degli Schiavoni , was probably built with the assistance of Slavons, slaves or not; bordered inter alia ships by Slaves sailors -slaves and Slavons; and was the witness of slave traffic of Slaves . So many good reasons to give it this name. But the word Schiavoni indicates above all: "the ones which come from Slavonia" (the sclavone or slavons).
